Junior Architectural Designer

Job Responsibilities: 

Design: 

  • Assist in developing architectural design concepts for interior spaces, including space planning, materials, and finishes.

  • Help create and solicit materials for mood board trays and presentations for client meetings.

  • Research and incorporate design inspiration and architectural details relevant to project styles.

  • Support in sourcing and specifying fixtures, equipment, and appliances. 

  • Join discussions internally, with vendors, and clients about design projects. Help track all changes to drawings, design decks, and presentation materials accordingly.

  • Prepare and organize client presentations using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

Drafting :

  • Regularly review and maintain project drawing files to ensure compliance with office standards. 

  • Work closely with senior design staff on generating various representational documents for project specific needs. 

  • Assist in organizing construction document sets, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details.

  • Develop millwork and custom furniture drawings in collaboration with senior design staff.

  • Assist in reviewing shop drawings and submittals from vendors and fabricators to ensure compliance to overall design intent. 

  • Build upon a knowledge of residential building codes and zoning regulations. 

  • Develop 3D models and renderings using Rhino.

  • Create 3D texture maps for accurate rendering material representation. 

Management: 

  • Manage information received from senior designers, contractors, and consultants and distill into an organized task list for internal review.

  • Occasionally attend site visits to help document progress and record updates with photos and notes. 

  • Attend workroom, gallery, and showroom meetings with principal or senior designers when necessary.

  • Assist in tracking all notes and design decisions made by updating schedules, work orders, drawings, etc.

  • Communicate with vendors and showrooms to obtain samples and pricing. 

  • Assist in tracking orders and coordinating deliveries for installation.

  • Update and maintain hard-goods material library with new samples and catalogs from all studio favored vendors. 

  • Build upon and curate a digital library of content that aids in the efficient production of representational documents. 

  • Maintain project organization both physical and digital, including project bins, presentation materials, drawing sets, digital files, etc

  • Assist with meeting preparation and follow-ups.

Job Requirements: 

  • 1-2 years of experience at a residential interior design or architecture firm

  • AutoCAD. Complete working knowledge of Autocad is required. Must be able to draw plans.

  • Adobe Indesign. Must have the ability to format tearsheets, presentation documents, and work orders.

  • Adobe Photoshop. Must have the ability to adjust images of items for tearsheets and design decks.

  • Google Suite. Must have working knowledge of Google Sheets and Documents in order to create and update schedules. 

  • Possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for working internally, with outside vendors, and with clients. 

  • Possess exceptional organizational skills in order to manage multiple projects and ongoing tasks.

  • Time management expertise required. Accurate understanding, forecasting and communication of task duration expectations and deadlines. 

  • Be able to set expectations for deliverables, and manage a schedule of tasks independently.

  • Sharp attention to detail 

  • Understanding of NYC building codes & zoning regulations (or willingness to learn).

  • Basic knowledge of construction methods & detailing, especially for interior fit-outs.

  • Familiarity with FF&E specification and procurement processes.

  • Working knowledge and familiarity of construction drawing sets. 

  • Proficiency in drafting and 3D modeling in programs 

  • and furniture from scratch, utilizing office CAD standards for formatting. 

  • Rhino. Novice understanding required. Can perform tasks competently, but may need to think through steps with the aid of someone more experienced. 

  • Be willing to travel to job sites in the NYC metropolitan area and as needed to sites in other parts of the country. 

  • Valid driver’s license. 

  • U.S. citizen, or already possess a work visa for working in the U.S. on a full-time basis
